We love our Community!
This past weekend we were exhibitors at the Natural Living Expo in Marlboro, Ma. We met so many amazing people and saw all of our exhibitor friends. It is honestly one of my favorite times of year. I love the sense of community and I love that more and more people are coming aware of their health and wellness.
Community makes us feel uplifted and a sense of belonging. I encourage you to go out in your community and be a part of something. Maybe volunteer at a local food bank or even go to a yoga class within your community. Feel the wholeness and welcoming part of your community!
My mom and I a couple years back volunteered at an after school program in Lowell, Ma. My mother created a fashion after school program for middle school students which was a lot of fun. For the first section of the after school program I watched my reiki teacher/friend teach meditation to middle school students which was amazing. I saw just how open and attuned some of these students were. Then after the meditation portion was over, I helped my mom in the fashion after school program. My mom taught the kids how to do many different things such as make their own gloves.
One of my favorite times with the kids was when we prepared them to do a fashion show. The girls got to pick out their own dresses that were donated to the fashion program and they became a lot more comfortable in their skin. We had the girls make posters and on the back of the posters they said things like "I am beautiful." and I am Strong." We used these posters within the fashion show and played songs such as "I am Light" and "Beautiful Flower" by Indie Arie. The school chorus sang "I am Light" which still sends chills up my spine. It sent such a beautiful message to those girls, that they are beautiful, smart and brave... no matter what anyone says.
My mom and I stepped into our community and made a difference that those students will remember for the rest of their lives. I like to call it our spreading light and love.
What will you do to feel the wholeness and welcoming part in your community?
What difference will you make in your community?
In light and love,
Holly Miller
